It took a large house to raise this large family of:
Jonathan Brewster Bingham (D) (legendary member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Bronx, NY from 1965-1983); and his wife, June Bingham Birge (prolific and published biographer, playwright, descendant of NYS Gov. Herbert H. Lehman); their 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. Among them – lawyer, social worker, social advocate, professor, musician/composer, Episcopal priest, doctor, and professor.
In fact, it took this large house of 9 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a living room large enough for campaign gatherings for Rep. Bingham, a side porch, separate garage, attic and basement all crammed with stuff, huge kitchen with pantry,…….. to house this large family.
It took BERGFELD’s crew of four, 3 weeks to clear this home (built c. 1920, home of Bingham family since 1957 ie. 50 years) of all personal property – selling to 5 used book and furniture dealers, donating to 3 large charities, searching for and finding ancestral photos and correspondence, ‘broom cleaning’ the entire home, and finally arranging for 3 trucks to cart away recycling and ‘trash’. All was accomplished to the family’s needs and wishes, their schedule and budget.
The house was promptly sold to an investment banker for a good sales price.
